Utility is a global, composite, preference-based measure of health-related quality of life. Utility-based measures indicate preference or desire for a health state. Utilities are scaled from 0 (dead) to 1 (full or perfect health), although negative values can be assigned to health states considered to be worse than dead.
Quality of life (QOL) is used in healthcare to refer to an individual's emotional, social and physical wellbeing, including their ability to function in the ordinary tasks of living.
